susan_gallery__384x550,0Susan Carland became muslim at 19 and was awarded the Australian Muslim of the year (2004). She is a lecturer at Monash University, teaching gender studies, politics, and sociology, with a special focus on Muslim women and Muslims in Australia. In addition, she is the co-creator of the Victorian Convert Support Service, and she has initiated and managed the Islamic Council of Victoria’s youth wing, Grassroots. Ms Carland gave the International Women’s Day address at the Victorian Parliament House and has spoken at Chatham House in London, the Muslim Professionals Forum in Malaysia, and as a panelist for Issues Deliberation Australia: Muslims and Non-Muslims in Australia.She married to Waleed Aly, a lawyer, jurnalist and da’wah activist.
